Shooting finished on ’21 Jump Street’ film
LOS ANGELES, July 5 (UPI) — Actor and screenwriter Jonah Hill says production is finished on the big-screen version of the American police TV series “21 Jump Street.”
Starring Johnny Depp, Peter DeLuise and Holly Robinson, the drama was about a group of baby-faced cops who went undercover and fought crime at high schools. It ran from 1987 to 1991.
The comedic film version features Hill and Channing Tatum. Depp is expected to make a guest appearance, as well, EW.com said.
“21 Jump Street just officially wrapped. See you March 16, 2012,” Hill said via Twitter Monday.

Johnny thinks opera’s so Depp
Johnny Depp was in the audience for Dr Dee – An English Opera at Manchester International Festival on Saturday.
Going by its success, he should snap up the film rights.
A source said: “Johnny was in the audience incognito. He didn’t introduce himself to Damon. Johnny’s played a lot of dark English characters in films like Sweeney Todd. He has also started producing films so he could be looking for his next project.”
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star admits he based Captain Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards.

First Look: New Johnny Depp Movie “Dark Shadows”
Warner Brothers has released the first look at Collinwood Manor, the setting for much of Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Filming began in May and it appears that work is nearly complete on the exterior, located in a remote area of Surrey (standing in for coastal Maine) in England, that will be used for the film.
The script is by first-time Burton collaborator Seth Grahame-Smith (author of the “Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter” and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” novels). Based on the Gothic television show from the 60′s, Dark Shadows has had big screen adaptations before, as well as an updated tv version in the late 90′s with Ben Cross, Burton’s film will be less a remake than a re-imagining. Johnny Depp has been cast as head vampire Barnabas Collins, while Eva Green will play the witch Angelique. Burton’s life partner, baby mommy and frequent collaborator Helena Bonham Carter will also appear as Dr. Julia Hoffman.
Here’s the official synopsis Warner’s released back in April:
“In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy, until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard. A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.
Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman, to help with her family troubles.”
The rest of the cast (and having grown up with Jonathan Frid as Barnabas and David Selby as Quentin, I’m liking these choices) includes Chloe Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley (as Willie Loomis-inspired!), Jonny Lee Miller and this just in…Alice Cooper! No word yet on who will play Quentin (there is a cast listing for a “young Quentin” so this may be a clue as to what direction Burton will take the story).
Dark Shadows is scheduled to be released May 11, 2012.
News About The Lone Ranger
Anyone wondering why Johnny Depp was in Santa Fe late last month — at La Posada, no less — might keep these two words in mind. Lone. Ranger. That’s right, Depp is starring as Tonto in the 2012 version of the Western legend — and word is, the Disney film will be another made-in-New Mexico (at least partially) extravaganza. Armie Hammer of The Social Network is set to star as the ranger.
Depp is promising to show Tonto in a new and improved light. He told Entertainment Weekly that watching The Lone Ranger cartoon affected him as a child. “I liked Tonto, even at that tender age, and knew Tonto was getting the unpleasant end of the stick. That stuck with me. And when the idea came up (for the movie), I started thinking about Tonto and what I could do in my own small way (to) try to reinvent the relationship, to attempt to take some of the ugliness thrown at Native Americans, not only in The Lone Ranger, but throughout the history of cinema, and turn it on its head.” By the way, Depp’s last Pirates movie just passed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Depp wasn’t the only star shining at La Posada last month. Spotters mention both Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) and “that guy from the mummy movie” as having stopped by. That would be Brendan Fraser.
Hometown girl Aviva Farber — who shot to notice playing McLovin’s girlfriend in Superbad — was home last week with parents Aram Farber and Laurie Farber-Condon. We are happy to report the Santa Fe High graduate is keeping busy in Hollywood. This Thursday catch her as the newest villain on Burn Notice, the USA series that updates Miami Vice for the new century. The shoot was on location in Miami, and Farber does some shooting of her own in the action-filled episode.
Chase Ealey, track and field star from Los Alamos, made it into “Faces in the Crowd” in the June 20 edition of Sports Illustrated.
Ludo Bites America premieres July 19 on the new Sundance Channel. Santa Feans will want to watch because the episode features Ludo Lefebre cooking at his own Tecolote restaurant. The premise of the show is that Ludo and his wife, Krissy, travel across the country aiming to open a restaurant every week. The notion is to take classic American food and turn it to a five-star wonder. In the same episode, you’ll also see new owner Katie Adkins — who is taking over for her dad — and Ludo go at it in the kitchen. As the promo put it, “from the food to the personalities to the reservations, everything is hot on Ludo Bites America.” The show airs at 8 p.m. New Mexico time.
Santa Fe author and archaeologist Duane W. Roller is cited in the July issue of National Geographic Magazine as a “respected Cleopatra scholar” and was a consultant on preparing the article. His last book, Cleopatra: A Biography, was published by Oxford in 2010.
Gambit — it’s official — is coming to New Mexico (as previously reported in El Mitote). The art con caper stars Oscar winner Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman, and is directed by Michael Hoffman, based on a screenplay by the Coen brothers.

Johnny Depp Bags a Treasure Chest of £200M for ‘Pirate’ Films
It would seem that the high priest of cool, Johnny Depp is staying true to his artistic integrity and will star in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
For an actor who used to make a point of playing unusual roles in unusual films such as Dead Man, Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and so forth and so on, his ever diminishing and perpetual performances in one of Walt Disney’s biggest earners is rather predictable and dreadfully dull.
Perhaps it’s the personal challenge of putting on a stupid ‘mock rasta’ wig and mincing around the place like a self-congratulatory camp Keith Richards. Or perhaps there are two hundred million other reasons Johnny boy loves playing pirates.
Namely the 200 million bucks he’s already earned from playing the part of Captain Cash Cow, sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the pathetic pirate who wouldn’t last five minutes with a proper pirate such as Captain Morgan or Blackbeard was a quirky novelty when he first trod the boards and made us all choke on our rum in the hysterically named The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The relish and self-congratulatory way Johnny Depp played Captain Jack in Dead Man’s Chest tested the patience of some and turned the stomach of others, and by the time At World’s End rolled around many would have gladly decapitated Johnny Depp with a blunt cutlass if they ever had to listen to saucy Sparrow’s chirpy ‘mockney’ tones again.
Yet thankfully the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy was complete and the curse was lifted. Captain Jack Sparrow was consigned to history and Johnny Depp could continue making proper films.
However worrying and strange tidings were soon heard that Depp was to resurrect his pirate prince for a new film called On Strange Tides. Except it wasn’t all that strange.
It was predictable, dull and the most successful film of the year so far, taking over one billion at the worldwide box office.
Now with Depp the business person reported to have swung a ‘cash break’ deal securing himself shares in the profits of the ridiculously profitable film franchise, the 48-year-old thespian is financially light years ahead of all his Hollywood rivals.
Now why would this star who has fallen so low give all that lovely loot up for the sake of artistic integrity?
Which begs the question, “Mr. Depp isn’t it high time you walked the plank for your crimes of piracy?”

Depp near deal for fifth Pirates movie
Johnny Depp is close to a deal to star in a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, says a source close to negotiations.
The development is probably not too surprising since the actor has earned close to $350 million from the Disney franchise, according to the source, making him the highest-paid actor in recent Hollywood history.
Depp is paid a percentage of the movies’ gross profits after the studio breaks even on its production cost and marketing expenses. The four Pirates films have grossed about $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office alone.
Additionally, the first three have earned hundreds of millions of dollars in DVD, cable TV and other backend revenues.
The fourth film, On Stranger Tides, has just passed the $1 billion mark at the box office.
On its most recent list of top-earning actors, Forbes magazine estimated that Depp made $75 million between June 2009 and June 2010.
Depp’s agent, Tracey Jacobs at United Talent Agency, declined to comment on her client’s earnings or the talks for the fifth film. A spokesman for Walt Disney Studios did not respond to requests for comment.
In May, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said he was working on a fifth Pirates script – and that he wouldn’t make the movie without Depp. The actor is key to the success of the Disney franchise: Without his swashbuckling character, Capt. Jack Sparrow, there’s no Pirates.
Depp has been driving huge box office success for Disney for close to a decade. In addition to Sparrow, he played the Mad Hatter in the studio’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.

Pirates 4 Passes 1 Billion at the Worldwide Box Office
If for some reason you questioned whether Johnny Depp was the biggest star in the world, question no more. For the second year in a row Depp has starred in a movie that has grossed more than 1 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Deadline reports that Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will cross the $1 billion worldwide mark this 4th of July weekend. This comes just a year after Depp’s Alice in Wonderland topped $1 billion in a similar timeframe.
While critics didn’t take well to the fourth film in the Disney franchise, worldwide audiences continue to flock to the adventures of Johnny Depp‘s Captain Jack Sparrow. On Stranger Tides is the second Pirates movie to cross $1 billion worldwide, following Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2006, giving Johnny Depp three $1 billion grossing films in his career.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides currently ranks as the 8th highest grossing film of all time in terms of worldwide box office. The film will likely pass The Dark Knight into 7th place before its box office run is over. Not only is Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides the third $1 billion grosser in Johnny Depp’s career, but it also gives the actor four of the top ten highest grossing films of all time.
It’s notable that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the lowest grossing Pirates film in terms of the American office numbers. On Stranger Tides has grossed a relatively modest $232 million in the US as of June 30th, following its May 20th release. Nevertheless, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides crossing a billion dollars worldwide will likely have Disney execs clamoring for a fifth Pirates adventure.
Johnny Depp Guitar Chops On Par With Slash and Brian May?
On Wednesday Johnny Depp Guitar Chops On Par With Slash and Brian May? was a top story. Here is the recap: (Gibson) Alice Cooper was more than a little impressed by his special guest guitarist at London’s 100 Club on Sunday night. Cooper introduced Johnny Depp as a blues player from Kentucky. According to Music-news.com, he said:
“So when I introduced ‘Johnny D from Kentucky, a famous blues player’ and he comes up, he had his head down and everyone was like, ‘who’s that guy?’ Then you could see the little light bulbs going on in their heads one by one and the girls at the front were going ‘That’s Johnny Depp!’”
Cooper called the Hollywood actor a great guitarist, saying: “I’d work with him again, I mean, the guy is a valid guitar player. We told him anytime he wants to come up and play, feel free. We’ve always given that kind of privilege to any great guitar player, like Brian May. He’s in the same place as Brian May or Slash. He’s a great guitarist.”

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince will marry today
Today’s the day! Finally, Kate Moss has got over losing divine Johnny Depp all those years ago and is ready to tie the knot, settling for the really very talented Jamie Hince.
Let’s all thank our lucky stars that it’s not Pete Doherty.
Kate and Jamie went out to the pub – of course – after their wedding rehearsal in Southrop yesterday, relaxing with guests including Alison Mosshart and Sadie Frost before they went their separate ways for the night. How surprisingly traditional.
They’ll be tying the knot later in Southrop, which is a few miles from Kate’s place, and have probably pleased residents no end by closing off two villages in order to have the privacy they want.
A source told The Sun:
“Kate hopes closing the towns will ensure there’s no unwanted intrusion on her big day. Guests will have to flash permits to security who will be lining the roads leading into the town. Locals have also received permits so they can come and go as they please.”
Kate spent last night with her mates at home, while Jamie stayed at Jake Chapman’s place – I wonder if they got any rest ahead of the three day festival planned?
Iggy Pop, Carl Barat, Beth Ditto and a host of other stars are reportedly performing at their reception which will stretch over the weekend. What? They couldn’t just go for a slap-up meal, warm champagne and a rubbish covers band like everyone else?
Show offs.
It’s not just Jamie and Kate have a look at these over-the-top celebrity weddings
